“How do I change my mindset?”
As a life coach, it’s one of the most common questions I hear. Sometimes it’s about a job. Sometimes a belief, a feeling, a relationship, or a judgement that won’t budge.
We talk reframing.
We talk pattern interruptions.
But if you’ve lived in the same loop for a long time, it’s hard to believe something different is even possible. That’s why a recent, unexpected experience shifted something in me—not just intellectually, but somatically.
A Retreat I Didn’t See Coming
A friend invited me to an advanced meditation retreat with Dr. Joe Dispenza. I said yes, with almost no research. I hadn’t read his books, didn’t know the structure, and brought all the wrong clothes for sitting on a cold ballroom floor for hours of meditation.
I had no idea what I was walking into.
And I wouldn’t change a thing.
The Rave, the Monastery, and the World
Somewhere midweek, I had this thought:
“Wait… this is like a rave, a monastery, and a global summit all in one.”
And weirdly, it worked.
We were 2,100 people from 85 countries. For seven days, we meditated (yes, for a collective 39 hours), learned neuroscience and energy psychology, and danced in between sessions. I’m talking real dance breaks—picture a ballroom full of humans moving to Bob Sinclar’s World, Hold On and Tiësto’s The Business under EDM flavored lights.
It wasn’t a bypass or distraction—it was integration. A joyful reset between deep dives into the subconscious.
Euphoria on a Cold Floor
Despite the cold floor, the jet lag, the lack of proper gear—I found euphoria.
Why?
Because this retreat gave me something mindset work alone can’t always do: a somatic experience of change. I felt what it’s like to let go of old stories. I felt what heart coherence is. I felt my nervous system respond to possibility instead of fight or flight.
Others did too. Some cried. Some screamed. Some laughed. Some sat in stillness and finally heard themselves again.
What Helps People Get Unstuck
This experience reminded me: shifting mindset isn’t just about thinking differently.
It’s about feeling differently.
It’s about state—your body, your breath, your energy.
Here are a few ways I saw people (myself included) get unstuck at this retreat:
- Pattern Interruption: Walking meditations to become your future self.
- Growth Mindset in Action: Trying something uncomfortable and unfamiliar.
- Reframing Through Science: Learning how the brain and heart can actually rewire.
- Collective Energy: Feeling the support of others doing the same brave work.
And most of all: being in a space where change felt possible.
The Song That Lingers
As I left, World, Hold On became more than a dance track. It became a mantra.
A reminder that if we:
- Access inner peace and align with our true self
- Connect with one another
- And open just a little more each day…
We really are unstoppable.
And if you’re feeling stuck or in a loop? Just know—your story isn’t over.
Your nervous system isn’t done learning.
And you are allowed to change.

Wow! This sounds like an incredible experience!
I love this line best. “Just know—your story isn’t over.”
What a lot of courage you showed to go to something so out of your comfort zone and “flow” with doing something so new.
‘Thanks for the inspiration, Laura.
Love this! Thank you so much for sharing this experience. I especially love what you said about your nervous system responding to possibility instead of fight or flight. Amazing!
This is so good Laura!! You explain that which is difficult to explain so amazingly well. I should know, I am the friend you said yes to, shared a cold floor with, and entered the unknown with, along with 2,100 other people.
And I loved every minute with you and 2099 others. That is not to say I did not get frustrated- the 5 hour meditation REALLY stretched me!
