Ditch the Drama, Find Your Inner Zen Master

Mar 6, 2025

Buckle up because we’re diving headfirst into the wonderfully weird world of “being present with yourself”. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Ugh, another self-help guru telling me to meditate and eat kale.” Don’t worry, consider this a crash course in hanging out with the coolest person you know: YOU.

Let’s be real, 2025 started with a few rocks to the face, am I right? (If not, spill your secrets!) Life throws us lemons faster than Beyoncé can drop a new album. That’s why being able to rely on yourself, your instincts – that’s pure gold. It’s like having a secret weapon in a world that’s constantly trying to throw you off balance. As Paulo Coelho wisely said, “Solitude is not the absence of company, but the moment when our soul is free to speak to us and help us decide what to do with our life.” Preach!

So, what does this “being present” thing even look like? Is it a silent retreat in the Himalayas? Trading all your worldly possessions for a yurt and a yak? Nah. It can be as simple as taking a walk without your phone glued to your hand, noticing the crunchy leaves under your feet and the sky doing its thing. It’s about ditching the opinion shopping (thanks, Instagram, for those “15 Ways to Know He’s The One!” lists) and tuning into your own inner wisdom. Think of it as cultivating your own personal Yoda, minus the backwards talking and questionable life choices.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Easier said than done!” And you’re right. Life throws distractions at us like confetti at a parade. We’re bombarded with notifications, to-do lists longer than a CVS receipt, and that nagging inner critic who sounds suspiciously like your middle school gym teacher. But here’s the truth: you are worthy of your own attention. Putting yourself first isn’t selfish; it’s self-preservation. As that wise woman, Tara Schuster, says in her books Glow in the f*cking dark and Buy yourself the f*cking lilies , it’s about managing yourself first.

So how do we kick those distractions to the curb and start hanging out with our fabulous selves? Schedule it! Slap it on your calendar like a hot date (because, let’s face it, it is!). Start small – a five-minute meditation, a mindful cup of tea, gently caressing your crystals–whatever floats your boat. The key is to set the bar low enough that you can actually clear it. And remember, you’re not aiming for perfection, you’re aiming for connection. Because when you’re truly present with yourself, you realize you already have everything you need to slay this beautiful, chaotic thing called life. As the great Buddha once said, “To straighten what is crooked, you must first straighten yourself.” Get aligned and the world will appear in a whole new light.
